System Description
QTSculptor is a complete system for the precise 3D digitisation of real-world objects. The foundation of the system is a 3D scanner which works on the principle of structured light projection. The system’s powerful software enables water-tight triangulated meshes to be generated from digitised 3D data. Additionally, a specialist module provides the option of creating photo-realistic texturing. There are many tasks which only become possible once the exact geometry of an object is known. QTSculptor can be used to digitise and reconstruct design models in three dimensions. Objects which are large or have complex forms must be recorded from a number of angles to guarantee complete scan coverage. The QTSculptor system allows objects to be scanned from any angle. The separate recordings are then simply and easily transferred into a common coordinate system using registration. System-controlled turn tables further simplify the data acquisition process. Subsequently, captured datasets are triangulated and, if necessary, textured with additionally recorded photographs to generate photo-realistic 3D models. Possible fields of application for digitised design models include mould and die production, film and television and for documentation in heritage and archaeology.
