ArchaeoDATA 2004

Since 1998, ArcTron Ltd. has been developing an excavation database under Microsoft Access. It features modules for archaeological project management, feature management, finds label management with associated scientific finds descriptions, samples management, photo management, automatic sample and finds label creation and multitude of other sections and specialist functions.

Together, the various sections constitute a program which is specifically designed for the systematic recording and automatic cross-referencing of archaeological excavation data. The database can be used to manage all descriptions of strata, plana, sections and feature fills etc. The description dialogs were developed using archaeological and pedological criteria. The program also includes report generators which allow the database to be rapidly printed out for archiving, either in detailed sections or in it's entirety.

Our system is now the standard excavation database in use in Baden-Wuerttemberg and in Westphalia.

ArchaeoDATA is compatible with ArchaeoMAP. When used in conjunction with ArchaeoCAD, these supplementary modules allow, for example, various database queries to be converted into CAD maps.

This program has been consistently tried and tested. This continuous practical employment has been extremely advantageous, allowing us to develop the program into an advanced and comprehensive excavation management system. It is capable of recording all vital and secondary information from an archaeological excavation using one uniform documentation system.

The database tables are accessed through MS Access. This means that additional scientific databases or user-made forms can be easily and rapidly developed.
