Excavations of a Hallstatt Period Grave Field in Kinding-Ilbling

Modern Surveying Methods

Investigations were carried out using geomagnetic and ground-penetrating radar techniques in order to be able to accurately assess the extent of the grave field near the railway line and how much of the site was at risk.

The geoelectrical ground resistance measurements, carried out by Dr. Joerg Fassbinder from the surveying department of the Bavarian heritage authorities in Munich, were particularly successful. They provided extremely clear evidence of several barrows from a test area.

Results of geoelectric measurements, aerial photography and standard surveying.
